The workshop was organised by EURACOAL, the European Research Executive Agency, and was included in the calendar of the Polish Presidency of the EU Council. The event was attended in person by more than 190 participants from Poland, Belgium, the Czech Republic, France, Greece, Spain, Germany, Ukraine, the United Kingdom, Italy, Colombia, Mongolia and the United States. The event was honoured with speeches by Ms Oyundari Navaan-Yunden, Ambassador of Mongolia, Ms Marzena Czarnecka, Minister of Industry and Trade, Mr Marc Lemaître from the European Commission's DG for Research and Innovation, Mr Marc Tachelet, Director of the European Research Executive Agency, Mr Ryszard Janta, President of Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa S.A, Ms Alicja Krzemień, President of EURACOAL, and Mr Leszek Pietraszek, Deputy Marshal of the Silesian Voivodeship. One of the key points on the agenda was the presentation of projects implemented in Poland with the substantive support of ICE-CMM Poland members, which received EU funding from the Coal and Steel Research Fund. During the conference, two debates were held with the participation of specialists from all over the world, who tackled the issues of strategies to reduce methane emissions in coal mines and the management of land and infrastructure after closed coal mines.
