ICE-CMM Poland representatives at Krynica Forum 2023

Representatives of the Centre of Excellence for Coal Mine Methane in Poland took part in the Krynica Forum 2023 Conference. Prof. Stanisław Prusek (GIG), Prof. Marek Borowski (AGH) and Presidium Chairman Artur Badylak (JSW) participated in the debate: Polish roads to climate neutrality. Goals, directions and inspiring examples.

Tomasz Cudny, President of JSW SA was the moderator of the debate and the special guest was Marek Wesoły  the Secretary of State at the Ministry of State Assets, Government Plenipotentiary for the Transformation of Energy Companies and Coal Mining. The debate concerned the impact of coal mining on climate change as well as the policy adopted by the EU to reduce methane emissions from the energy sector, including coal mines. The possibilities of reducing this impact and the directions that can be taken on the example of the JSW environmental strategy. Particular attention was paid to the possibilities of reducing methane emissions and its economic use. The importance of role played by the Centre of Excellence for Coal Mine Methane in Poland was emphasised. It was pointed out that the joint projects implemented by the members of the Centre are an excellent example for the global mining industry of how the issue of reducing methane emissions from mines should be approached.
